Head Lice Notice to Parents, Guardians & Carers

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Recently, we have been notified of two cases of head lice at St Angela of the Cross Primary School.  Head lice do not transmit infectious diseases, but they can spread quickly through head-to-head contact. They are a common occurrence in school-aged children and are regularly found in many schools. While head lice can be frustrating to deal with, they are treatable and manageable with a coordinated approach between families and the school.

What Can You Do?

  • Checking your child’s hair regularly for lice or eggs (nits)
  • Treating your child’s hair promptly if head lice or eggs are found
  • Informing the school when treatment has started
For helpful advice on finding, treating, and preventing head lice, please refer to the Victorian Department of Health guidelines by visiting: www.health.vic.gov.au/head-lice

When Can My Child Return to School?
  • A child identified with live head lice should be kept home from school or childcare until the day after treatment begins.
For more information about school health regulations and exclusions, visit: www.health.vic.gov.au and search for “school exclusion table”.

Maintaining Confidentiality
We understand that head lice can be a sensitive topic. Please be reassured that St Angela of the Cross Primary School is committed to handling all cases confidentially and respectfully.

Thank you for your continued support.
