Principal's Message | Our Vision and Mission
Dear Parents,
At the end of last term our staff participated in professional development day where we developed the Vison and Mission of our school.
Father Peter Slater presented to us on this day about St Angela of the Cross and why our school was named after her. It was of great importance that we learnt more about her and made sure that her charism was reflected throughout the following statements.
At St Angela of the Cross we strive to be a nurturing, humble Catholic community; building a culture of faith filled, persistent and inclusive learners.
We will be nurturing and inclusive
- We will challenge and support each other to flourish, grow and learn
- We will ensure all school members have the opportunity to belong and feel connected to the school
We will demonstrate humility
- We will use our strengths to help others
- We will put others before ourselves
We will be persistent
- We will see mistakes as opportunities to learn
- We will be resilient and goal focused
We will be faith filled
- We will enact Christ’s and St Angela’s invitation to serve
- We will support our community’s journey in their faith
As a staff we will use these statements as teaching tools and learning opportunities to ensure our students understand the vision of our school.

Reflection from Deacon Mark Kelly
Witnesses to the World
Sunday’s Gospel (John 17:11-19) speaks directly to the hearts of 21st century Australian Christians about inclusion and unity! Jesus knows exactly how we are fixed. We live, work and play in an environment often indifferent or opposed to the core Christian values which recognize God’s limitless love for us and in turn our desire to love God and our neighbours to the best of our abilities.
Much of the wider world is focussed on individualism over community, on hedonism over compassionate service, on wealth accumulation rather than equitable distribution and on furious, pro-active, denial of a divine creator (and denigration of those who disagree). Like Jesus, we do not identify with the worst of the world’s values and priorities. Also, like Jesus, we don’t ask to be removed from the world but rather protected from those evil influences. Our purpose of existence as baptised Christians in the world is to proclaim the Good News of God’s Kingdom wherever and whenever we go. We can only do this immersed in the world we are placed in. Like Jesus too, we have a great affection for the people we encounter and a desire to love them for themselves, to chat and mix with them, to heal them where we can, to immerse ourselves in the many earthy, harmless and enjoyable pursuits of the world and helpfully roll up our sleeves as needed. The best of third millennium Christians are to be found amidst all the other flavours of Australians, evangelising by their very lives, shared struggles and joys.
Adversity has brought Christians together as we haven’t been for many centuries. Together we deal with the hostility and indifference of the world. And together, immersed in the world, those we move among can witness our integrity, truth and sincerity such that many will also seek to be disciples of Jesus.

Japanese
USE Japanese for FUN.
楽しんで話します。
USE Japanese. Yes but in what context? Well mostly we are learning Japanese that can be used between students in classroom settings. Which is why last term was focussing on asking for things, passing things and talking about what you have.
Let's USE Japanese for FUN.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21YNEcTrlqE
We are continuing play based learning this term. Striving to USE Japanese only when we are speaking with each other. Last terms learning about asking for things will be recycled, and adding this term inviting others to play, or asking to play. Then if a student wants to say something, but doesn’t know how to in Japanese then they come to me and work out how to say it in Japanese, then they go and say it. This way Japanese learning is completely directed by what students want to say. Here is a recent example:
Legoをください。
Lego o kudasai.
Lego please.
私と一緒に ?
Watashi to issho ni?
Me and together with?
(Can I play with you? / Do you want to play with me?)
We will add the verb next week.
What things do you do? Email me to let me know and I will help you make a Japanese way to say it. Especially if it fits the “object - verb” pattern. office@trafalgar.catholic.edu.au
